Our October meeting is this Wednesday at 7:00pm at the Milhopper Library- Mtg Room A. We hope you’ll make it! Got some news to share about displaying our modern quilts as part of the fabric art exhibit at Santa Fe College this Fall. If you have a modern quilt you’d like to display please let Vanessa know! The dates of the exhibit would run from Monday, November 4th – Wednesday, December 18th at the President’s Hall. The gallery director is looking for 12-15 modern quilts from us (size does not matter!) and I think that is something we can pull together easily! We’ve seen some great works of art from you during show-n-tell!
If you are interested in submitting a quilt for consideration in the display please email Vanessa with a picture of the quilt or bring it to this month’s meeting. If you’re not sure whether or not your quilt is “modern” send me a picture or bring it to this week’s meeting and we’ll let you know. Many of us make all kinds of quilts from traditional to modern and although we would love the guild to submit all the works of art our members make please keep in mind that submissions are for a modern quilts exhibit. So the more modern your quilt, the better! For a definition of modern quilting please click HERE.
QUILT SLEEVE WORKSHOP: At this week’s meeting Vanessa will be presenting a workshop on how to make and attach a sleeve for hanging your quilt. This is something you will need to add to your quilt if you plan to submit it for the exhibit mentioned above or if you’d like to submit your creations in any quilt show. The standard is to have a 4″ quilt sleeve. If you’d like to make a quilt sleeve as Vanessa demos it feel free to bring the following supplies:
– a finished quilt of any size
– fabric strip that measures 9″ x width of your quilt plus 1″ (i.e- for a 24″ x 24″ quilt = cut strip at 9″ x 25″ )
– sewing machine
– extension cord (to reach wall outlets in meeting room)
– cutting mat + rotary cutter
– measuring tape
